Manfred Mohr’s P-197 Cubic Limit II
2016
Manfred Mohrs P-197 Cubic Limit II (1979) is the counterpart of P-197 / K Cubic Limit II (1977). Their difference is that the 1979 work (black; fig. 3) is the negative of the 1977 work (fig. 1). Both are based on the same principle, that of cube manipulation, which Mohr used in the Cubic Limit I and II series.
The goal of this project was to analyze and reconstruct the P-197 Cubic Limit II with Processing, in order to achieve a new way of digital access and work mediation in a museological context.

Work analysis
In both works, P-197 / K Cubic Limit II (1977) and P-197 Cubic Limit II (1979), a cube is divided by its center into two half cubes, which are rotated independently of each other. An important component of the composition is the three-dimensional representation of the original cube in frontal view, as defined by a two-dimensional "square window", which remains invisible. Graphically, the edges of the half cubes are accentuated, as long as they are located within the square (see fig. 2).

The 1979 piece (to be reconstructed; see fig. 3) consists of 64 such cubes (64 * 2 half cubes), which are represented in a 8x8 matrix.
The Processing sketch
The final Processing sketch was designed to create a new iteration of cubes every time it ran. For a description of the whole process, see the documentation here (in German).
